On 25 June 2024, as part of IAB HowTo: Artificial Intelligence Practical Approach, I led a three-hour online workshop "Do it yourself with ChatGPT! From an idea to a working application". I showed how to build online applications using only natural language.
The starting point was a thought from Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, that everyone will be able to program in their native language. Step by step, participants built their own solutions with ChatGPT: from the first page in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, through a data-saving form, to a campaign results dashboard with an interactive chart. Along the way, I discussed how:
- Every website or application has two sides: the front-end, which the user sees, and the back-end, which operates behind the scenes.
- Technology is accessible to everyone. You can create applications, email campaigns or websites relying entirely on AI assistance.
- Language models can make mistakes when generating code.
- Browsers have security measures that block data loading, so it is worth working on a local server.
- When programming, the context of a conversation with a model runs out faster than usual.
